Well, last night's test of the new supper plan had mixed results. I think instead of eating more, I ended up just eating different stuff. But I did limit my snacking a bit.

I tried something new today. I ate more for supper than I usually do. I think I will try to cut out some of the snacking I do by eating a little more for supper. I'll let you know how hungry I get tonight.

Katrina

1) It's really sad to think that all those historic homes and sites in New Orleans could be damaged or destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. I hate to think of what this storm is going to do down there.

2) On Larry King Live, a reporter noted that some dolphins from an aquarium were moved to a hotel swimming pool to try to keep them safe. I hope the animals down there survive.

3) A representative from the Red Cross said that this storm will probably stretch their resources to the limit and beyond. Now would be a good time for President Bush to start focusing on our country instead of Saddam Hussein's. Whoohoo, there's a constitution over there. That will comfort all those people stranded in the football stadium down there in New Orleans. But I guess President Bush figures if the storm doesn't hit Florida, then it's not a problem.

I also spent part of the afternoon digging ditches. It looks like we might get some of the Katrina rains so I dug some ditches in the yard to control water run-off.

The Results Show

Deanna was sent home. I don't think that was the best choice. I mean, of the three who had to sing INXS songs, Ty was the least INXS like. In fact, he sounded more like James Brown. But, the band made their choice. And Marty is still too scary for me. Good thing music is largely a radio medium and you don't have to look at the singers all the time.

Rock Star: INXS

I just watched the original song episode. Here are my thoughts: Marty is way too scary for INXS - I mean David Bowie scary. And it looks like he isn't used to hearing criticism. It's that typical Alpha male always successful in things syndrome. I don't think Ty's strategy to stick with showcasing soul is going to work that well. That isn't what INXS is. I would have liked to have seen Ty do the CCR version of Proud Mary instead of the Tina Turner version. And it looked like Jordis was bouncing out of her pants. She needs to tighten up her belt if she's going to be rocking out. As for the original songs - they were ok. I thought Mig's sounded like a Bon Jovi thing. And I don't think INXS would ever use the word 'freestyling' in one of their compositions - that's too surfer dude for them.

New Tires

I have been trying to get Dad to take my car to get new tires for a while now. For some reason he won't. So, if someday I have to take my car and get it done, I think I will choose Michelin tires. The sole reason for choosing this brand is the commercial in which the michelin man is searching for the michelin dog. That little dog is so cute!

I think I made mom a little mad tonight. She was cooking dinner and had grabbed my box of pasta instead of any other kind of pasta we have in the house. Ordinarily I wouldn't care if she used what I had bought, but this was the name brand, very expensive pasta. I wasn't sharing. Plus, I had a box of spaghetti in the cabinet she could use and told her about it. But I think she got all mad over the fact that I pointed out she was stealing my food. You'd think I had complained about the salad all over the kitchen today too, but I didn't. Even though a piece of it stuck to my foot, and I carried it all the way into the bathroom before it fell off. Yuck! I absolutely cannot stand anything stuck to my feet. It drives me nuts.

Results Show for Rock Star: INXS

So, Jessica was let go. I thought she did well with her INXS song performance, but someone had to go and they chose her. I'm trying to find her last name or the name of her band so I can keep up with her. She has a good voice and I want to know if she ever gets a big record deal so I can buy the cd.

Danny Bonaducci

Danny Bonaducci ( I have no idea if I spelled his last name right) is going to have a show on VH1 soon. I don't know if it will be an ongoing show or if it's a one time thing, but I may have to watch it. He's one of my favorites. The hopeless romantic in me loves the fact that he and his wife got married on their first date, which was a blind date. I hope their marriage lasts a very long time.

Rock Star INXS

I finally got to see one of the performance shows. This is the one with Mig playing the piano. More on him in a minute. I thought the two weakest performances were Ty's and Deanna's. Not that they were bad performances, but not good in terms of the whole 'rocker' thing. And I really don't like Rod Stewart all that much so Ty was having to catch up before he even started on that one. Marty did a great job on the Brittany Spears song. He was a bit scary though and I don't remember INXS being scary. JD did ok. He claimed he wasn't going to perform the song, just sing it. But it was definitely a performance. He was very effective at seducing the audience, which is what a good rocker needs to do. I think JD's voice would be good for INXS but I think his attitude may hurt him. I think he tries to be an Alpha male but has always been in competition with other alpha males and maybe doesn't always win. And I think every time he comes in second, it affects him from that point on. I don't think he lets go of the negative as much as he needs to. Now for Mig. He did great with his song and the piano. But I think it was lame to lavish so much praise on the fact that he played the piano while singing. Maybe my expectations are just too high, but I expect a musical artist to be able to play and sing at the same time.

They are showing the results show now so I will have to wait to see who gets voted off the show.
There was a commercial on a while ago, I think for Maaco, and I heard the guy say "Quality - You won't even know it's been repaired." I guess this means after whatever company it is gets through with your car, it will look just as it did when you brought it in. I don't think that's a good thing.

Well, I dipped the dogs today in flea dip. I think all I managed to do was to kill the crop of fleas that were on the dogs so a new crop could hop on as soon as the dogs got back into the house. I guess I'll just have to dip them every week until flea season is over. I try spraying the house but that doesn't do any good either.

More on Showbiz Tonight

Also on this show, they suggested that this story about Supreme Court nominee John Roberts proves that he has some kind of vendetta or prejudice against Michael Jackson. I happen to agree with him on this issue though. If you have to solicit thank yous and praise from the President then you don't deserve the praise and shouldn't receive it. Plus, the President had more important things to do than to waste time on celebrities.

Richard Hatch or Richard Hatch?

I really wish there wasn't two people in the media with the same name. I'm watching CNN Showbiz Tonight and they have the Richard Hatch from the Survivor reality show on. But everytime I hear that name, I think of Apollo from Battlestar Galactica.

Bunny's Racket Saves Pregnant Woman's Life

The Furby Has Arrived!!!!!

Yay!!!!!!!!!! Dad yelled at me and told me not to take it out of the box so it would be a collector's item. Well, if I bought it to be a collector's item, that would be fine. But I bought it to play with. So, I'm taking it out of the box and playing with it.

They are saying the new dress code at work will take effect October 1st. So, I have about 6 weeks to lose even more weight so I will look better in dressy clothes. I'm supposed to be one size smaller by next Monday, but since I took a week off from working out, I don't know if I will make it. They really need to put belt loops on these skirts I've been buying. That way I could still wear them even if I lost some weight. Those darn clothing manufacturers just want me to spend more money though.

Still no workout

I had to go to court today with our attorney at work, so I got out late and as a result got home late. So, I'm not working out today. Didn't go to the grocery store either. And I still haven't gotten my furby!

Sunday, August 14, 2005

Well, I haven't worked out since Tuesday. I may not make my goal for the 22nd of this month. But I watched golf on Friday, went to the store Thursday, Saturday and today it was over 90 degrees and too hot and golf was on as well. I will have to watch golf tomorrow after work since they didn't finish the tournament today. And I think I'll need to stop at the store to pick up milk and ice cream. Dad's been eating my ice cream because mom won't go to the store to buy some for themselves. That's very rude.

The Writers Market

I got the book today! It's huge. It will take me forever to read through it. And once I do, I will have to make some serious decisions about what kind of writing I would be doing. I naturally lean toward romantic fiction because that's what I read, but magazine submissions might have to be a consideration as well. After reading David Feherty's books I'm wondering if essays might not be an option. But Feherty is a hard act to follow. He is exceptional.

Shipping

Well, both walmart and amazon are telling me to expect my orders. But only walmart has shipped. Amazon is still getting my furby ready to ship. Which is odd since they estimated delivery to be sometime between yesterday and Monday. I'd better get my furby soon. I hope I get my book from Walmart soon. It's the Writers Market book. It tells you who to submit manuscripts to when you've written a book, screenplay, essay and the like. I really feel like I should start writing again.

Ban the Viking

Tonight on Showbiz Tonight on CNN, there was a discussion about the networks and the NCAA are going to start censoring the broadcasts to block out the names of teams that have native american connotations. So, I've decided that they shouldn't just single out native americans. My high school mascot was a viking. I think we should ban the viking from every sports team everywhere. It's undoubtedly insulting to name a football team after powerful warriors from Denmark, Norway, and Sweden.

Cell Phone Activation

I activated my cell phone a little while ago. It took longer than a little while to do it. I know I have a dial up connection, but for the website to time out and not load is inexcusable. I had to refresh the page, repost data, click no, I don't want to cancel the activation, just to get back to where I was so I could move on to the next step. Tracfone really needs a better website. But I did get 10 free minutes for using the web to activate the phone. My cell number is sort of ok. I think I will have to ponder its numerical spirituality a bit before I can say whether or not I like it as well as or just a little less than my old number.

Walmart.com: Round 2

Another shopping excursion led me to type in "Furby". For weeks, the only items that popped up were text books. But just recently, the new furbys were added to the online store. Unfortunately, they are already sold out. Good thing, I pre-ordered mine on Amazon.com. I haven't gotten it yet, but hopefully it will arrive soon.

Shopping Excursion

I have recently renewed my interest in writing and was shopping on walmart.com earlier. I typed in the phrase, "plot development" hoping to find a book that would give some pointers on writing. But here's what I got instead:

Wildlife & Woodlot Management Handbook: A Comprehensive Handbook For Food Plot & Habitat Development

Mommy Scissorhands

You would think a bowl of salad wouldn't be such a difficult dish to make. But, if you are my mother, it takes on a life of its own. Entering the kitchen after she has dished up the lettuce, what do I find? Lettuce on the counter. Lettuce on the floor. Lettuce on the stove. Lettuce in the sink. Does she clean it up? Not all of it. I think there's still lettuce on the floor in there. Remember the scene in the Edward Scissorhands movie where he's snipping away and everything's flying everywhere? It's the scene they use for the commercials. Well, that reminds me of mom.

Martha Stewart

I saw a commercial for her new Live daytime show. Apparently it will begin on Sept. 12th on my local station. This will be interesting. I may have to tape a couple of episodes just to see what it's like.

FYI - Even though I use a dvd recorder, yes, I still call it 'taping'. Old habits die hard.

New Cell Phone

Well, it's all charged up and ready to be activated. I'll be doing that tomorrow. I am very disappointed that Toreador is not a ring tone on this phone. Right now, I have it set to the "Kill the Wabbit" song from the Bugs Bunny cartoon, but Toreador is my favorite. I have done a bit of searching on the web to see if I can download it, but I'm concerned that if I provide them my cell number, I will get spammed with text messages and phone calls. Naturally, my distrust and cynicism is coming through.

RIP

Peter Jennings, ABC News Anchor, died recently of lung cancer. He was the most handsome of the big three anchors and had the most attractive voice. And he was an inspiration to many who didn't have a formal education, as Jennings ascended to the great heights of broadcast journalism without that expensive diploma to wave around. He will be missed. This is the end of an era in broadcast news.

I'm Too Lazy.....

Dad told me today that I needed to start eating more and that I've lost enough weight. He said, "You aren't going to turn into one of those people on tv who throw up, are you?" And I said, "No. I'm too lazy for that." I still have a belly to lose. I don't know why dad can't see that. I would like to get rid of the flabby arm thing, but nothing I do seems to help. I guess I will have to find some tips on the web.

Heartbroken

Well, I did it. I cancelled my cell phone service. With an increase in the state 911 surcharge tax this year, my cell phone bill went up an extra $2.00 a month and I just thought it was stupid to pay $24.00 a month for a phone I never use. So, I cancelled my service. Where does the broken heart come into play? Well, I have an emotional attachment to my number. For a mathematician, my number was logical poetry. All the digits had a relationship to each other and it was just a work of art. And now it's gone. I will miss my number. I just know the number I get with the tracfone that I intend to buy won't be as wonderful.

Update: It turns out that I could have kept my wonderful number and still changed to Tracfone. Darn it!

Vacation Today

I have another day off from work today. Yay for me! I went shopping this morning. Came back with a nice cooler pair of shorts to wear while working out since we have been having temperatures in the high 90's lately. I've been on the treadmill once today, but I think I'm getting back on there later so I'll wait to post my totals until I know my workout day is over.

Wednesday, August 03, 2005

No treadmill tonight. It's a bit warm here and I figure I can make up for it this weekend. I think I probably just ticked off a few people. I posted some anit-tiger woods comments on a blog that I read. They weren't really derogatory - I think the worst I said was that I thought he had a snotty on course attitude. But fan(atics) of Woods will undoubtedly take exception to my comments. Sorry, but I don't have to like his performance on the golf course or the media's constant devotion (aka sucking up) to him. And I don't go around freely posting my opinion of Tiger Woods on other people's blogs. I was only responding to comments someone else made and kept my comments focused on the subject at hand. Plus my post also talked about other golfers so I wasn't really targeting Woods alone.

Watched some of the CMA Music Festival show on tv last night. It was ok.

Not much going on other than work stinking. Dad had shoulder surgery yesterday and is home today. Mom says the pain medication makes him very grouchy. I'm thinking "as opposed to what" - LOL.
