Today Granny (a state office person) tried to nitpick my work. I had to take the case to our attorney and have him back me up on it. I still haven't heard back on that one. She's probably asking Little Miss Commissioner for a ruling. Everyone says you're not supposed to *hate* people, well, I really, really, really, really dislike those state office people. And she's called Granny because as someone at work said, "She's old enough to be my grandma" and because Granny actually has a real life rocking chair in her cubicle. She also has the blue, grey and yellow country kitchen look going with the rocking chair cushions and everything.

I've been browsing the pigs on Ebay lately. And I bought a couple of really cute hand carved piggies. And there's a music box I'd really like to have, but I have trouble spending money on things like that. Books and dvds that I've planned for- no trouble. But I hate to part with my money otherwise.

I'm currently reading a Nero Wolfe novel. I usually read romances, but since I got the Nero Wolfe Season 2 dvds, I've been itching to read some of the books. One day I will own the entire collection of Wolf novels.

I might join PETA to fight Arnold's stupid idea!
You know, I'm pretty sure that Saddam controlled his scientists like this too. Maybe he's been giving the Current Administration some pointers while he's been in custody.
I stumbled across this website today and liked their little slogan:
"Last in line for the Nobel Peace Prize. First in line for pie."

Oh, Scarlett, I made the meatloaf today. It was good. Doubt there will be any of it left to bring to work on Monday. Sorry....
I got my Nero Wolfe Season 2 DVDs today! Yay! If my niece wasn't here I'd be watching them. I did try a couple out just to make sure they were working. I'm so excited. Cross another thing off the wishlist!

I learned a new blogging trick. I'm so excited. That google is a wonderful thing. I just typed in what I wanted to know and had the answer in a fraction of a second.

Big News!

This past Monday I had gone to the bank to get prequalified for a home loan. Today, I learned the outcome. I have been prequalified for the maximum amount I specified. Yay. That means I can finally start phase 2 of the house project - the actual house part, not just the saving money part. It was kind of torturous having to wait all week, but the news is good so that makes up for it. I didn't tell my parents about it until I found out how much the bank would loan me. Dad can be such a wet blanket that I didn't want to give him a whole five days to list every negative thing he could think of. So, this was a good way to end the week.

Today at work I was down at our state office testing the programming and one of the bosses asked me to provide him with information he needed for a report he was preparing to submit to our state legislature. Sounds important, doesn't it? LOL! I wonder if this guy is a member of the BEST Award committee. April is nominating me for the award, and I nominated her and Scarlett and Tony. Surely one of us will win this time. If not, the committee will at the least be sick of seeing our names, which is a good consolation prize. I would like to see April, Scarlett or Tony win, but selfishly, I hope I win just because I know an email announcing it will be sent out to everyone and little miss commissioner (aka Morticia as Scarlett calls her) will have to read the email and realize that she just can't beat me. And a BEST win can't hurt when we get our new supervisor. Brownie points - not just for Girl Scout trainees anymore.

Apparently milk is now unsafe......

Toxic Rocket-Fuel Byproduct Found in Cows Milk
Those nice people at the Tinfoil Hat blog were victims of a heinous theft of bandwidth! They are asking for a one time donation to help them with their bandwidth problem. They have always been nice people to me so I'm just saying that if you have an extra dollar, you might want to consider helping out their cause. I am having to attempt a circuitous route in order to donate as I don't put credit card information online. I asked Ria to check it out for me. She is my personal shopper online.

Little Miss Commissioner stinks! Just had to say it cause it's oh so healthy to communicate your emotions.

Today I was looking at cookbooks at work and was tortured by really good pictures of scrumptious meatloaf and mashed potatoes. I was going to come home and make some, but I worked over a half an hour and when I got home I didn't feel like it. I ate some potato chips instead.

I just read an entry on Wil Wheaton's blog about how the makers of some dorky video game chose to believe some lame website's "assertion" (aka false statement) that Wil had claimed he had been cast in a role in the video game rather than check Wil's site and read the entry in question for themselves. First of all, anyone who reads Wil Wheaton's blog knows he doesn't get cast in anything that often and his real success comes from his writing and his sketch comedy stuff (and his role on the Teen Titans cartoon). Second, if the dorky video game makers are this irresponsible, makes you wonder just how good the game will be. Good thing I'm a tv and book girl, or I'd be tempted to boycott the video game makers in a show of support for Wil. As it is, I will just say that money spent on video games could be better spent doing other stuff. Feeding some starving kids in Africa. Saving the lives of some pets on death row in an animal shelter. Buying a ticket to see Michael Moore's movie, Fahrenheit 9/11 (Moore needs the money to buy a new baseball cap). Buying Bill Clinton's autobiography (carrying it out of the store is good exercise as it's so huge). Donating some money to the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation (Superman needs you now). Not that there's anything fundamentally wrong with video games. I just think that once in a while, for your health, you should put down your control thingy and actually walk out into the sun and get some fresh air. Or at least take one of those little gameboy things outside and play it there. Or, there could be a resurgence in interest for the game of dodgeball after everyone sees the movie.

Hey, Tinfoil Hat people......

To the people running the Tinfoil Hat website - I've been getting this message for a few days now when I try to go to your website:

I have no clue what this means, but if I continue to get it, I'll probably be removing the link to your site from my blog. No sense in suggesting people click on the link just to get this message. I think maybe my tinfoil hat is not of the heavy duty Reynolds variety and therefore not strong enough to block out all the evil forces keeping me away from your insightful musings.

I'm actually watching a reality show.....

I'm watching Outback Jack on the TBS channel. It's about these spoiled women with expensive tastes who have to live in a camp in the middle of the Australian outback to compete for Outback Jack. They parachuted out of a plane to get to the outback while they were wearing prom gowns. It's hilarious. I would post the link to the show, but it's too busy right now for me to go there. There's an online play along thing and you can win a trip to Australia.
Today was an absolutely wonderful vacation day. I watched some of my Season 1 Nero Wolfe dvds, some of my Season 1 and season 2 Alias dvds, watched a little bit of HGTV. I also read some vague Season 4 Alias Spoilers on the internet. Can't wait for the new season, even though I will have to wait until January. I've been trying to find out whether or not the Season 2 Nero Wolfe dvds I got off Ebay will get to me sooner than I think. It seems there are some people who are getting theirs two weeks or more before the release date. But I can't find out specifics. Oh well. It should only be another week or so anyway. I will hopefully have them in time for my next 3 day weekend so I will have some time to watch them. Oh, I did some cleaning up around the house today too. Vacuumed up enough cat hair to clog the vacuum cleaner. And the cats' little domain of their own is still a mess. But at least the Febreeze makes it smell better.

And this morning I spotted Neighborcat the Third chasing our Tomcat. It was just like those tv commercials where the little house cat chases the zebras in the wild, or whatever it was they chased. Of course the most meaningful part of this little note is the designation of "the third" for the neighborcat. Yes, we have counted three neighborcats around our house. So, that brings the total cat population to 10.

Tonight I'm watching a show on the Food network called Paula Deen's Wedding. I started watching Paula Deen's cooking show when it first started airing on the network. She is from Savannah Georgia and started in the food business 15 years ago with only $200.00 and the small business called The Bag Lady. Today she has a big restaurant in Savannah, called the Lady and Sons, and cookbooks and the tv show. I like her show and her personality and I think it's great that she's found someone that she wants to share her life with. I don't know that it's so great that she's having her wedding and the preparations for it on tv. I like her so much that part of me wants her to keep that private and not share it with millions of people. But part of her appeal is her southern hospitality which I guess would lend itself to welcoming everyone into her life. If you get a chance to watch her show on foodtv or visit her restaurant, you should.

Is Keith Urban's "Raining on Sunday." Yay!!! I voted for that one!

Good thing I'm off Monday!

I'll get to see some of this on tv, I bet.

New spaceport set for milestone mission

Computer RX

My brother-in-law worked on this computer last night and deleted some stuff off the c drive. So, now we have about 1.2 gb of free space where before we might have had 50mb. That helps a lot. And our printer will print again. But it won't scan or copy. My digital camera still doesn't work, but I think I will try uninstalling and reinstalling the software and plugging that usb cable in again and see where that gets me. And I can once again open my wordperfect documents, which is wonderful since my resume is one of them. I may need that some day if I ever want another job. My new problem is that I needed to update my windows media player to see the videos on the cmt website - I updated it but it still won't play them. Oh well, it isn't like I can't see them on cmt, but it would have been nice for the media player to work. I have saved a lot of stuff from our hard drive to cds and 3.5 in. floppies. Once I tell mom about it, I will suggest that we delete some things.

I thought it was a Weird Al Parody at first........

I was listening to the Sirius Radio thing on the satellite dish and the song Mony Mony was playing. I heard the lines "Ride your pony, ride your pony. Ride your pony come on, come on" And I thought for sure it was a Weird Al parody, but no, those lyrics are really part of the song! Who knew? Thought it was interesting since Big and Rich are getting a lot of airplay for their song "Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy."

Scarlett - here's your chance to hear the song. This is a link to the CMT website where they have the full length VIDEO for the song.

The Search Is Over

I found some Little Debbie Oatmeal Creme Pies at Krogers. Fatherhood Day at work was a complete failure. I love how we waste taxpayer dollars. And for those of you who think we are just wasting our STATE dollars - think again, we get Federal matching funds. Well, I need to give some attention to my other blogs (the italicized ones in the green box). They miss me.

Well, it was back to work day today. We still don't know who our supervisor is. That is completely unfair of management to keep Tony in the dark like that. Otherwise, work was atypically boring today. And I am experiencing pre-vacation blahs. I will be off this Friday through Tuesday and I can't wait. Oh, there is an oatmeal creme pie shortage here in my little town. We haven't been able to find them anywhere. Wonder what's going on.

I have just mentally spent about $100.00 on music - I'm watching the top 100 Love Songs of Country Music on CMT. Restless Heart, Ronnie Milsap, Mickey Gilley, and who knows who else I need to get greatest hits cds of. I think I'll be updating the wishlist soon.
An enjoyable blog: Dirty Feet and Lilly White Intentions
I just saw part of a really funny commercial for Starbucks Coffee. It's got the music group Survivor following this business guy around and they are singing a spoof of their song Eye of the Tiger. One of the lines they sing is: One day he just might become..... supervisor. LOLOLOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Reminded me of Tony. It's great to see Survivor still out performing.

By the way, a quick google search informed me that you can get an Eye of the Tiger Ring Tone for your cell phone. How cool is that??!!!
I believe I will start taping episodes of The Pretender. It's one of my favorite shows and from what I've read on message boards, it doesn't sound like dvds will be out anytime soon. Who knows, maybe someday I will create a blog for The Pretender.

On the show CMT Crossroads, Kid Rock and Hank Williams Jr. did a song called "In Country Music, You Just Can't Say the F-Word." Well, apparently they don't listen to the Outlaw Country Radio Station on the Sirius Satellite Radio Network, because I just heard a country song with the F-Word in the title. It's really depressing. Why can't people clean up their acts and try to realize the potential within themselves to improve the human race and leave this world when their time comes a little better than it was when they entered it? I guess it's all the redneck 'let's go start wars all over the world' nonsense that we've been seeing for the last couple of years.

Hey Scarlett, I found out today that one of the applicants for the supervisor job sells doublewides just down the road from the office. If I had known, I would have abandoned the poster making and forced him to sell me a doublewide cheap!

Over in the Blogs of Note section, I have italicized the titles of the blogs I own (The Maltese Cow and The Earth Hath Skin...) I was looking for a way to change the bullets into stars or something, but I didn't find it. Maybe someday I will. However, the italics worked fine to separate my blogs from the blogs I read and that's what I wanted.

I found a new entertaining blog!

I found a blog on Blogger's recently updated blogs list. It's called Scarlett's Web and it is so entertaining that I've made a link to it over in the Blogs of Note section. So, check out Scarlett's Web.
You might be a Techneck if.........
Yay! It's the weekend! I am so happy to be away from work for a couple of days. It wasn't all that bad but I really, really, really don't like the adjustment unit and they are getting on my nerves. Tony was supposed to call at 4:30 today to find out if he got the supervisor position. Scarlett had told him to call us when he found out and gave him our phone numbers, but as of 5:30 he hadn't called me. So, either he didn't want to call us, or he didn't get the job and he's too mad and disappointed to call us, or he doesn't know yet. It could be that they are waiting until one of the interviewees stops abusing her sick leave and hauls her butt back to work before announcing a decision. And another possibility that occurred to me was that maybe she and Tony tied and they had to send off the interview materials to a third party to cast a tie-breaking vote or something. Who knows. Maybe Scarlett does. Maybe Tony called her.

In an effort to research all my options for the Great House Project (me buying a house of my own), I sent away for information on Unibuilt Homes - they are modular homes. I got the brochures yesterday and they are clearly out of my price range. But, the floor plans and pictures are nice to look at.

We still don't know who's going to be our supervisor. Tony claims he hasn't been told yet, which is worrying the rest of us. We are beginning to think he hasn't been told because they picked someone else. I told Tony I would help him find a job at the dreaded state office if he didn't get to be supervisor. I wouldn't blame him a bit for leaving.

I got a catalog in the mail today that has non-electric things like oil lamps and solar powered things, and old hand tools. I need to look at it some more. I got it to buy some things I might need for my new house (if I ever get one) in case I lose the electric due to storms and such.

And I got my A-Team dvds. Check out The Maltese Cow over in the green box for more on those.

Those of us at work whose paychecks are not direct deposited will be getting paid early this week due to the post offices being closed for the former President's funeral. But we have been told that even though we have been paid early, we CANNOT cash our checks until TUESDAY. Do you know how many people will go ahead and cash them anyway? This will never happen again and they will force all of us to become direct deposit employees after this future fiasco.

Today I helped Scarlett make a banner and a few posters for Fatherhood Day at work. The banners will be entered into some kind of contest to see which one is best across our entire state. I don't know if the people who made the winning banner actually win anything - probably not. Anyway, we (April helped too) spent all day on this when we could have been doing real work, but if that's how the bosses want to spend their money, then hand me that glue and poster board. Also today, Tony interviewed for the Supervisor position in our office. He dressed up in dress pants, a nice ironed shirt and a tie for the occasion. He also brought a change of clothes with him so he could change as soon as his interview was over. Well, I'm sure you will never guess what happened to his change of clothes when he left us with free access to them during his interview. Needless to say when he got back from the interview, he had to play the "warm/cold" game (you know, 'you're getting warmer, oh, you're getting colder' - that game)to find where I hid them. LOLOL!!! The look of consternation on his face was priceless. But he also had a sneaky grin too - he knew it was a good prank and appreciated it. Julie bought me a candy bar to bribe me into doing some work for her. I brought it home with me but after stopping at Walmart and the grocery store, the candy bar melted in the heat of the car. However, it's in the freezer and it will survive long enough for me to eat it. While I was at Walmart I bought these cute plastic glasses - green and blue ones. They are for that house that I will someday buy. I don't buy many things for 'the house' because I have no room to put them and I don't know what the house will look like and I'd like to have things that went with the colors of the house, but I had to get these glasses. They have a secure place of honor under my bed right now.

Here's a funny story about Keith Urban - scroll down part of the way on the page.

Today I planted my vegetable garden. Dad had plowed up the garden and we figured this would be our best chance since we've been getting lots of rain. So, I was out in the sun planting after I got home from work and now, thanks to digging in the dirt in the sun, I have a headache. Yay (she said sarcastically). My RAM said today that I have so much trouble with the adj unit and Little Miss Commissioner because I intimidate them. LOLOL!!! I didn't really believe her, but boy did that inflate my ego something fierce. I believe my RAM has just created a monster.

My Latest Computer Experience

So this time, I was trying to use the 'send to' option to send my favorites to a 3.5 in floppy disk since I have no hard drive space. It worked great for a while and then I guess the computer decided it couldn't let me be pleased with anything because I started getting this Explorer error that said something about a page fault and dumping something or other. A Bunch of numbers and symbols in the little error box too. And then it proceeded to close all my windows and I couldn't do anything so I had to restart the computer. I restarted twice. Oh, and it would take off my desktop background too and I would have to click on that 'restore my active desktop' message. The last time I had to restart, a small refrigerator we have had kicked on, so maybe it has something to do with our electricity. But that would be applying logic to this computer and there's no logic that can explain this evil contraption.

Mark my words.... the end of the civilized world won't come from people waging war, it will come from computers crashing or becoming sentient and taking over.

Brad Cotter's Star is bigger than Nashville

I just bought the cd single of Nashville Star winner Brad Cotter. It's really great. There are two songs on it: I Meant To and I Miss Me and both were apparently co-written by Brad Cotter. They are great songs and you should go out and buy his cd. The full cd will be out sometime in July.
